A first half penalty by James MacLennan extended the Spiders unbeaten run to 7 League games.

Queen’s travelled down the coast to play Morton on a wet and wind Wednesday evening. Morton had won 4 games out of 6 so far in the League.  Queen’s 5 out of 6.

Both sides attempted to get the upper hand during the opening 15 minutes but the real winner was the atrocious weather.  Strong wind and driving rain was preventing either team from playing to their capability.

In the 20th minute Queen’s took the lead. James MacLennan was pulled down inside the Morton box.  The referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty.  James stepped up and fired a low shot to the keeper’s left into the net.

Five minutes later Michal White denied the Greenock side an equaliser.  He blocked a low shot which looked goal-bound.

In the 42nd minute Morton hit the post with a shot from just outside the box.

Half Time: Morton 0 Queen’s Park 1

Queen’s made a substitution at half time. Luke McCall replaced by Andy Henderson.

The rain, which was heavy in the first half, was now biblical proportions.  Still the excellent Cappielow pitch stood up very well to the onslaught.

After absorbing opening pressure Queen’s had a shot on goal when James MacLennan made the Morton keeper work hard to keep the ball out of the net.

In the 56th minute Morton equalised. A ball was played from midfield through the Queen’s defence for the Morton number 11 to cut inside and fire a low shot across the goal into the far corner of the net.

In the 62nd minute Queen’s made their second substitution.  Aaron Black off and Ronan McLaughlin on.

By now both teams were really pushing for a winner leaving space for attacking players to exploit.

In the 68th minute Queen’s made their final substitution of the night.  Jordan Pender replaced by Declan Walsh.

By about the 75th minute Queen’s who had absorbed a considerable amount of Morton pressure in the second half began to push back and get back into the game.
