An outstanding striker’s goal by Joseph Manderson, in the first minute, was enough to win the game for the young spiders.

Queen’s made the short journey to Coatbridge to play Albion Rovers in the SPFL Development League West.  The Spiders were looking to get their title challenge back on track after two recent defeats.  Albion Rovers were looking to gain their first points of the campaign.

The game could not have started any better for Queen’s.  In the first minute Joseph Manderson latched onto a superb defence splitting pass and fired a low shot past the Albion keeper into the net from 20 yards.

Two minutes later Calvin McGrory, wide left, beat two defenders and crossed the ball to the far post to Andy McLaughlin. Unfortunately for Andy his accuracy was off and he hit the side netting.

10 minutes into the game and Albion Rovers were dominent.  They controlled the midfield pushing Queen’s back into their half.  The Queen’s defence looked solid denying Albion Rovers any real scoring opportunities.

Although Albion Rovers had most of the play in the first 30 minutes they really had nothing to show for their efforts.  Queen’s were now slowly pushing forward and attempting to get back into the game.

In the 33rd minute a great fast break by Queen’s resulted in James MacLennan having a shot which was superbly saved by the Rovers keeper.

Half time:  Albion Rover 0 Queen’s Park 1

The first 10 minutes of the second half saw Albion Rovers continue to dominate play. They had a bit more urgency and determination than the young Spiders.

In the 57th minute good work by Joseph Manderson.  Joseph won the ball in midfield, drove forward and shot bring off yet another fine save by the Rovers keeper.

The game continued with Albion Rovers attacking and Queen’s defending.  Any time Queen’s won the ball they immediately gave it away resulting in yet another Rovers attack.  Queen’s were too rushed in their distribution, electing to play difficult passes rather than keep possession.

In the 67th minute Queen’s replaced Calvin McGrory with Jordan Pender.

Four minutes later Queen’s made a second substitution.  Ali Miller replacing Aaron Mooney.

In the 73rd minute Albion Rovers had a great chance to equalise.  The ball was crossed in from wide right to the far post.  The Albion Rovers winger, unmarked, failed to connect.  A lucky escape for Queen’s.

The game at this stage was becoming stop-start.  Lots of fouls and offsides. It was hard for both teams to get some flow into their play.

The full time whistle blow with Queen’s the winners although Albion Rovers dominated the entire game.
