Peter Murphy’s Annan side are the visitors to Hampden on Saturday for our penultimate home game of the season. The Galabank side who have enjoyed a fine season to date and having already secured a playoff spot, will be looking to finish the league campaign as strongly as possible. Looking to disrupt those plans will be a Spiders side unbeaten in our last six and looking to extend a run of four consecutive clean sheets. With that in mind, we’re sure to be in for a decent game of football at the national stadium on Saturday.

On the eve of the match gaffer Mark Roberts spoke to the club media team to give his thoughts on the challenge that awaits his side. Roberts said: “We can’t wait to get going and it’s a game that we’re really looking forward to. With the run that we are on, games can’t come fast enough and from our perspective, it’s just a shame that the season is due to come to an end in a matter of weeks.

“We’ll be looking to take the game to Annan and the onus is on us to get the ball down and play passing football. If we can do that, I’m sure we’ll cause them problems. Confidence remains very high in the squad given recent results and we’ll be going out there on Saturday to everything we can to take three points. As I’ve said on several occasions, it’s important we finish the season as strongly as possible.

“The players have continued to do all that the coaching staff have asked of them and it’s pleasing to see those efforts being rewarded with points on the board and us moving up the table recently. Despite having had nothing to play for in terms of chasing a playoff spot or avoiding relegation, the players have not let standards slip and they’ve been a credit to themselves.

“We know Annan will provide extremely tough opposition, they have done every other time we’ve faced them this season and we expect Saturday to be no different. They’ve done very well to secure their playoff spot with games remaining and with those playoffs now in sight, I don’t expect them to take their foot off the gas in the remaining few league matches. We’ll need to be at or close to our best to take something from the game but we’re confident that can be achieved.”

On the squad front the gaffer hinted at the possibility of one or two changes but played his cards close to his chest. He did confirm that the squad is bolstered by the return of Lewis Magee and Calvin McGrory, which will give him a positive selection headache in the middle of the park. Roberts also confirmed that midfielder Kurtis Roberts returned to training on Thursday night, whether a place in the squad on Saturday is too soon will remain to be seen.
