Peter Murphy’s in form Annan Athletic are the visitors to Hampden on Saturday as the Spiders kick start a run of four successive home matches in a row. The Galabank side sit third in the table with ten league matches under their belt and visit the National Stadium looking to make it four wins in a row in all competitions.

On the other hand, Queen’s gaffer Mark Roberts will send his side out onto the Hampden turf seeking a fifth successive victory, something not achieved by the club in almost four years. One thing’s for sure, if the recent form is anything to go by, those in attendance are in for a good game of football.

Ahead of the Hampden clash the club media team caught up with Mark Roberts after training on Thursday night to get his thoughts going into the match.

Roberts said: “I expect Saturday to be as tough a test as we have faced in recent weeks and it kick starts a run of matches that will be a real test of character for the squad. Our success in recent weeks has been well documented and I’m looking for the squad to kick on from there. Annan are third in the table on merit and like ourselves, go into the game in good form and on the back of a number of victories.

“I know their manager, Peter Murphy, very well having signed him when I was Ayr United manager. Peter has a great pedigree in the game and played at a very good level as a player. Having turned his hand to management it’s no surprise to me to see him doing well, and I fully expect that he will set his team out to be hard to beat.

“Having said that, we have nothing to fear going into the game and with it being our home match, the onus is on us to go out and do what we need to in order to get a result. We’re fully aware that visiting teams enjoy the opportunity to play at Hampden but we need to use both the size of the pitch and the conditions to our advantage. It’s a great surface for us to go out and play football, utilising the excellent options we have in attack.

“The players know the level of commitment, application and performance required of them and I don’t think anyone could fault them on any part in recent weeks. Every player to a man has bought into what we are looking for and have been excellent in executing the game plans during the recent run of victories.”

Roberts was delighted to confirm that his squad have come through this week’s training sessions with no fresh injury concerns meaning that, at the time of writing, he is likely to have the same squad at his disposal to that which has served him well in recent weeks.
