Elgin Match Preview

The Spiders face their longest away trip of the league campaign on Saturday as they make the journey up the A9 to take on Gavin Price’s Elgin side at Borough Briggs. With just two points separating the sides in the table and both teams going into the game on the back of disappointing results it’s a tough one to call. One thing’s for sure though, Mark Roberts will be looking for a drastically improved performance from his side to that which was produced at Hampden last Saturday when Edinburgh City ran out comfortable 2-0 winners.

Ahead of the Elgin clash the club media team spoke to the interim gaffer to get his thoughts. Previewing the game Roberts said: “Saturday is one of those games that we know will be very difficult. It’ll be an entirely different type of match to last week and it’s one of those that we will need to roll up the sleeves and get stuck in. I know games like that generally aren’t very pretty to watch but we need to make sure we do what is required to get a result.

“We need to make things difficult for Elgin, compete from the start and make sure we win first and second ball, we can’t afford to stand off and be second best.

“We’ve had two positive training sessions this week and used Tuesday’s session to go over where we went wrong against Edinburgh City. The players are desperate to get back to winning ways and are putting in the hard work at every training session.

“Whilst we go into Saturday’s game looking for a reaction to the results of the last two matches we are mindful that Elgin also go into the game on the back of a defeat and they too will be looking to make amends for that. We will however go there in a confident frame of mind and in the knowledge that should we play to the level and standards expected, we are capable of getting a result.

One the squad front Roberts confirmed that Gregor Fotheringham and Lewis Hawke are likely miss out through injury however both Gerry McLauchlan and Ciaran Summers have been declared fit despite minimal participation in training this week from the pair.

Roberts confirmed that on the back of his four goal performance in the 5-2 midweek win for the Strollers, front man Euan East, who has found opportunities limited since his arrival, will likely feature at some point during the match.
