Four sensational goals from Euan East sealed an outstanding win over Berwick Rangers in the SPFL Reserve League Two last night at Lesser Hampden.

Queen’s had started their League campaign with three wins out of three.  Berwick Rangers had managed one win beating Raith Rovers 4-0 away from home.

The wild weather of the day had turned into a pretty good night for football – dry and not too windy. The kick off was delayed 10 minutes to allow Berwick a decent warm up after they were delayed in traffic getting to Lesser Hampden.

The opening 10 minutes saw the Spiders take control of the game against a young Berwick side.  Their crisp passing and movement causing Berwick problems.

In the 13th minute however slackness in the Queen’s defence allowed Berwick in but they couldn’t exploit the situation.

In the 21st minute a great run, on the left, by Euan East resulted in a free kick for Queen’s 20 yards out. Euan took the free kick and curled the ball round the wall into the net at the near post.  A very accurately taken goal.

Eight minutes later Euan had another great run.  He ran through the Berwick defence as if they were not even there.  The result another free kick for Queen’s 20 yards out this time right side of goal.  This time no goal.

In the 31st minute Queen’s increased their lead and it’s Euan East again. The ball was played cross field right to left.  Euan picked the ball up, played a one two and smashed the ball into the back of the net from 25 yards out.  What a goal!!

In the 38th minute Queen’s added a third. A strange goal.  The ball was played back to the Berwick keeper.  Under no pressure the young keeper attempted to clear the ball but all he did was to hit the back of Kieran Moore.  Kieran then turned round and lifted the ball over the advancing keeper into the empty net.

In the 41st minute Euan East added his third and Queen’s fourth of the evening.  Yet again Euan had another amazing run through the Berwick defence before slotting the ball past the keeper into the far corner of the net. Outstanding work from this young man!

Queen’s continued in the second half where they left off in the first – in charge.

Six minutes into the second half and, yes you’ve guessed it, Euan East scored his fourth of the night. Good build up play in the left saw Euan with the ball 30 yards out.  He played a one two and just like the first half he hit a belter past the Berwick keeper into the far corner of the net.

In the 55th minute Queen’s replaced Aaron Mooney with Declan Walsh.

In the 63rd minute the Queen’s coaches took pity on Berwick Rangers and brought off Euan East replacing him with Josh Black.

The game by this stage had lost a lot of it’s momentum.  Queen’s were so far in the lead you couldn’t blame them for taking their foot off the gas.  Berwick to commend them kept going looking for that elusive first goal.

In the 69th minute Queen’s made their final substitution of the night.  Michael Ruth replaced Brendan Sharpe.

In the 79th minute Berwick got a penalty when a Queen’s played handled the ball in side the box.

Just when you thought Berwick would get that first goal, Elliot Anderson pulled off a fantastic save, diving low to his right to not only block but hold onto the penalty kick.

In the 83rd minute Berwick eventually got their goal.  From a free kick 20 yards out the Berwick player hit the ball over the wall into the far corner of the net.
