A late fight back including a cracking goal by Joseph Manderson wasn’t enough for Queen’s 20s to gain any points against a well organised Morton at Lesser Hampden on Wednesday night.
It was a perfect night for football. Cool, dry and no wind.
Morton took the game to the young Spiders straight from the kick off. They won a corner inside the first two minutes and should have scored.
Four minutes later Queen’s responded from a free kick which Kevin Green headed the ball into the Morton keeper’s arms. A good chance to take the lead.
In the 7th minute Morton hit the post.
Morton dominated the open 20 minutes. They had most of the ball. Queen’s were reliant on fast breaks.
In the 25th minute Kevin Green, who was injured in a head clash was replaced by Luke McColl.
In the 34th minute Morton took the lead. Morton’s Jai Quitongo picked the ball up wide left 35 yards from goal, beat a couple of Queen’s defenders before firing a low shot across Elliot Anderson into the far corner of the net. A superb striker’s goal.
In the 42nd minute Elliot Anderson pulled off a fine save diving a the feet of the onrushing Morton attackers.

As in the first half Morton nearly scored at the start of the half when a shot narrowly missed the Queen’s goal.
In the 57th minute Elliot Anderson pulled off yet another fine save diving to his right to deny Morton.
Two minutes later Morton doubled their lead. A cross from the left is Morton’s number 4 who headed the ball into the net.
In the 62nd minute Queen’s replaced Andrew Henderson with Daniel Crawley.
In the 64th minute Morton almost had a repeat of their second goal but this time the header was blocked by the Queen’s defence.
In the 73rd minute Queen’s made their third substitution of the night replacing Aaron Black with Cameron Dickson.
3 minutes later Ali Miller had a great run beating 3 Morton players then becoming swamped by defenders before he could release the ball.
Morton’s keeper injured his shoulder as a result of a collision and was replaced by their number 4.
In the 84th minute Queen’s got one back. Joseph Manderson hit a superb strike from 20 yards out to beat the Morton keeper.
