Goals by Chris Duff and Joseph Manderson sealed yet another victory for the young Spiders last night at Lesser Hampden.  That made it four wins in a row for the table topping Queen’s youngsters.

Albion Rovers were the visitors to Lesser Hampden for the fourth SPFL Development League West game of the season.  Queen’s were flying high winning all three game so far, Albion Rovers still had to secure a point.

It was a fine, dry night, perfect for playing good football.

Queen’s started the game superbly. They pushed Albion Rovers back and dominated possession of the ball.  In the opening minutes Queen’s found space behind the Albion defence and created a number of chances.

This domination continued with the Albion Rovers keeper denying Queen’s a number of occasions.

In the 40th minute Daniel Crawley hit the bar with a fine shot from 16 yards out.

Two minutes later Queen’s took the lead.  Scott Gibson fired a long diagonal ball for Joseph Manderson to run onto wide left.  Joseph took the ball to the goal line and crossed it in for Chris Duff to head the ball beyond the keeper into the net.

The second half continued in the same fashion as the first with Queen’s the dominant team.

In the 60th minute Queen’s made a double substitution with Declan Walsh and Cameron Dickson replacing Dominic Docherty and Ciaran Summers.

In the 63rd minute Albion Rovers nearly pulled one back. Their number 3, who was having a fine game, dribbled into the box and fired a shot which just missed the far post.

A couple of minutes later the Albion Rovers number 3 again caused Queen’s problems. He was brought down just outside the Queen’s box.  The free kick hit the bar.  A let off for the young Spiders.

In the 74th minute Queen’s should have increased their lead.  A clearance by the Rovers keeper was blocked and with an empty goal beckoning Queen’s failed to capitalise.

In the 77th minuter Queen’s made their final substitution of the night replacing James MacLennan with Andy McGlaughlin.

One minute later Queen’s doubled their lead. Calvin McGrory played a defence splitting pass to Joseph Manderson.  Joseph drove into the Albion Rovers box and fired an unstoppable shot into the far corner of the net.

In the 82nd minute a great double save by Owen Stott denied Albion Rovers an almost certain goal.
