The Spiders journey over the border on Saturday to take on bottom placed Berwick Rangers at Shielfield. The Black and Gold might be on a dismal run which has saw them record just one win in their last 20 but with just four games remaining in their fight for survival, Queen’s should expect a tough test against Johnny Harvey’s men.

Queen’s, on the back of a solid 4-0 away win last weekend, go into the game high in confidence and looking to extend a five game unbeaten run which has saw Jordan Hart keep three successive clean sheets.

On the eve of the game the club media team spoke to gaffer Mark Roberts to get his thoughts.

Roberts said: “It’s a game we’re very much looking forward to, particularly on the back of last weeks win. We’re expecting a much tougher test than last week where we were surprised that Albion Rovers, given the form they’d been in, didn’t really lay a glove on us. With Berwick Rangers fighting for their lives we expect it to be a real battle.

“As I’ve said numerous times over the past month or so, it’s important we have a strong finish to the season and I commend the players for their performances over the last couple of months and more recently the results which have saw us move up a couple of places in the table.

“We still have ambitions to finish fifth but with a four point gap between ourselves and Stirling Albion, and only four matches remaining, we know that is a big ask. Three points on Saturday is a must if we are to have any chance of fulfilling that ambition.

“The players know the importance of a strong finish, both those who are committed to staying next seasons do those who will move on. It’s very pleasing from a coaching perspective to see the squad buy into the current system we’re playing, and we’re now seeing the benefits of that I believe.

“The run of five games unbeaten and the three clean sheets in a row we have kept have been as a result of the players applying themselves in the right manner and going about things the right way. On the whole since the turn of the year we have been playing very well but at times maybe not getting the results some of the performances deserved. That’s what makes the recent results all the more pleasing, as they are the result of hard work.

“The boys know that there is an expectation that we continue that going into a Saturday’s game and if we do, there’s every chance we will take something from the match”.

On the squad front Roberts confirmed that he will again be without the services of midfield trio Jamie McKernon, Kurtis Roberts and Calvin McGrory, and hinted that he may field an unchanged starting IX to that which featured at Cliftonhill a week ago. The gaffer is a firm believer in not making unnecessary changes to his side, particularly after a victory, so don’t be surprised if it’s more of the same tomorrow.
