Berwick Rangers Preview

The Spiders return to the home comforts of Hampden on Saturday as Johnny Harvey brings his Berwick Rangers side north.  This is a crucial game for both sides who have ambitions of moving up the table in the second half of the season. Queen’s, on the back of a 1-1 draw away to Stirling Albion, will be looking to reproduce last Saturday’s performance which was described by gaffer Mark Roberts’ as the best since he has been at the club, and to end a run of 10 games without victory. That however will be no easy feat with the visitors also looking to end a run of eight matches without a win.

On the eve of the Hampden clash, the club media team caught up with the gaffer to get his thoughts going into the game. Roberts said: “Saturday is a game that we’re all very much looking forward to. On the back of last week’s performance against Stirling Albion the squad are desperate to get going again and put the disappointment of not taking all three points behind them.

“From my perspective I’ll be looking for more of the same from the team and for us to build on that performance level. The players are hungry to pick up three points and kickstart the season and if we manage to reach the level we did last week, we’ll give ourselves every chance of doing that.

“We want to end the current run and start a positive one as well as rediscovering the consistency we were able to display earlier in the season, but we know that will be no easy task with Berwick looking to end their own run of games without a win. We expect a very tough match, as we do every week, but it’s a game that we go into with a huge amount of confidence restored and very much looking forward to the challenge.

On the injury front Roberts was delighted to confirm that his squad is bolstered by the return of defensive duo Gerry McLauchlan and Ciaran Summers who have both missed out in recent weeks due to injury. It gives the manager food for thought but he was keen to stress that it was a positive selection headache, something which he has not had the luxury of for some time.
